On Friday, August 19, 2016 in Ms. Jeffords' social studies class, students learned about the Freedmen's Bureau of 1865 through a hands on food activity. Ms. Jeffords dressed up as a member of the government agency dedicated to assisting freed slaves adjust to freedom by helping with everyday problems such as food, clothing, shelter, school, and health care. Students learned about the services and purposes of the Freedmen's Bureau.

The class activity focused on students taking today's food that symbolized food from the past in order to create peanut butter cups. After the activity was completed, students were able to enjoy a Friday afternoon snack celebrating an amazing first week of school!
